La Princesse de Clèves illustrated by par Christian Lacroix
A prolific and inspired couturier, Christian Lacroix, born and raised in Arles, knows how to do everything: sewing, theatre costumes, drawing, painting, decoration... Since 1987, the year that marks the birth of Maison Christian Lacroix, to today, he has cultivated his creations, transgressed his boundaries and turned towards the future. Driven by his interest in books, classical literature and theatre, he took up the challenge of appropriating the text of Madame de Lafayette, La Princesse de Clèves , and adorning it with a series of original drawings inspired by this novel that was recently at the centre of a controversy.
Should we read La Princesse de Clèves ? The answer that the artist-couturer seems to give is an unhesitating yes. The interventions of Christian Lacroix that punctuate the text throughout the work accompany us in the reading of this novel by Madame de la Fayette that has become a true emblem, a symbol of resistance.
