He has been through a hundred wars

It housed a hundred birds day and night

And insects by the millions

He saw the druids and the young girls

It sheltered the sighs of love

Disdainfully he watched the army of lumberjacks pass by.

A trickle of sap is enough for him to go from one spring to the next.

He no longer knows whether he is an oak or a reed.

When the young shoots have perished
