Bécassine
Woodcock, Trompe-Loup Island, Gironde Estuary, August 2003
What bird?
Gave a flap of the wing
Out of a tree's dream
From a bush as thick as a bundle of old tow
From a colorless pole melted into the air
Which bird came from where, which flight to which continent?
Towards what food
What giant lighter than the wind swept away the sand
With a soft cloth spread the ashes on the sand
Waiting for the rise towards the clearer towards the indefinite towards
The enigma
What awaits us as we climb into the image
This strange and deaf lake
Is it snow water?
A weightless, limitless, bottomless mist
On which black islands float
Overturned ships, lost boats
What is this coast that the curved forest borders like an eyebrow?
This monstrous eye what is it looking at
Where we have an appointment with whom
And when?
In this desert
Do we have an appointment?
