"I have been acquainted with Camus for a long time. Like him, I was born in Algeria, like him, I have tried to tell the complex links between France and Algeria, first through my Carnets d'Orient , then through the exploration of his work.

« L‘Hôte » first of all, this short story from L’exil et le royaume which addresses the main Camusian themes, the absurd, revolt, fraternity and beyond, the notions of choice, justice, responsibility, while placing at the center of the story the vast Algerian landscape of the high plateaus in winter.

Then there is L’Étranger, this monument of literature, whose main difficulty in adapting it was to give Meursault a face and to make him live under the Algiers sun.

Finally,  Le premier homme, a posthumous and unfinished novel which could have opened a new cycle, that of love or fraternity, in which I found again through the simplicity and light of Camus the Belcourt district in Algiers where I was born and where my father and grandparents lived.

Putting Camus' work into images means weaving invisible threads that connect me to him and better understanding what this shared history means deep inside me."
